A couple weeks ago, I met up with the talented Jeffrey Chan; house photographer for the shOws, to discuss helping photograph their three night event. The best part about doing freelance photography work is I get to meet and work with so many amazing people and I learned so much just from a few short days!

I haven’t experienced much of the Toronto fashion scene on my own as of yet, so being back stage for the shOws’ Spring / Summer 2014 presentations of four very talented designers was a fantastic place to start. The venue; Andrew Richard Designs, was really interesting {so much light!} and made a really nice backdrop for all the behind the scenes shots. The designers; Calla, Jeremy Laing, Steven Tai, and Bellavance have created some truly gorgeous pieces that I can’t wait to see people wearing next season. It was also just really interesting to see how much talent and work goes into putting these presentations on and how Paola Fullerton & team worked tirelessly to make it happen.

My job was pretty simple – I just had to get photos of the guests as they arrived {viewable here}, but I was able to photograph backstage and throughout the presentations also. So I got to have fun capturing candid moments, as well as try out runway photography for the first time {and capture this from the photo pit}.

Here are some of the shots I took of the incredibly talented models and hair & makeup teams making magic:

Overall it was a great experience. I saw some pretty things and familiar faces which is always fun {small world!}, and got some great shots to play around with. Photos of each look from the presentations are already bouncing around the internet, so unless I have something that looks different, I probably won’t make a big deal about those pictures. I have to do a major content overhaul on my website though, so they may end up there eventually.

Special thanks again to Jeffrey Chan for inviting me to help out at this event! I had a great time.
